This hand lettered logo has been one of my favourite personal projects. When I heard of 1000 books before Prep, Mrs Reid’s (aka, my mum) brilliant initiative to get kids reading, I wanted in on helping to promote it, starting with the logo.
I wanted the logo to really quickly express a couple of things:
- a childlike quality that would appeal to kids
- the scale of the project in a fun, not overwhelming way.
I knew straight away that I wanted to juxtapose big fun block lettering against a book illustration.
My initial drafts featured the lettering on top of the books, which I thought was cool but a little bit restrictive in terms of digitising.
I separated the two and refined into the logo as it is now. The colour scheme was inspired by Mrs Reid’s school colours. Even more exciting than working on the logo for the project is the fact that I now that I have a baby I can read to. I’m glad to be able to take part in the challenge.
